Context Window

The maximum amount of text an AI can consider at once when generating a response.

In Plain English

The Context Window is the limit on how much text an AI can "see" at one time. It includes both your input and the AI's response. Larger context windows allow AI to work with longer documents and maintain longer conversations. Context windows have grown dramatically — Claude and Gemini now support up to 1 million tokens (roughly 750,000 words), while some models push even higher. This means you can paste entire books or codebases into a single conversation.

💡Real-World Example

If you paste a 100-page document into ChatGPT or Claude, it can read and discuss the whole thing because it fits within the context window.
