# AI Company Plans to Run Computer Servers in Space to Avoid Power Shortages A startup called Orbital Inc. wants to build tiny data centers on thousands of satellites orbiting Earth, powered by solar panels, so AI companies can run their chatbots and other programs without straining the electrical grid on the ground. The company argues that there's plenty of free solar energy in space that we're not currently using, and that Earth's power infrastructure simply can't keep up with the huge electricity demands of modern AI. Their first test satellite is scheduled to launch in 2027.
